Woe to those unlucky to encounter the lava dragon. For it is perhaps the most feared and powerful denizen of the Lava Kingdom of Eldrador, a hulking, pitiless, and cruel tyrant that relishes wreaking havoc and destruction.

The lava dragon was one of the very first toys in the Eldrador Creatures line, and it remains one of the biggest. It measures 18 cm, stands 14 cm high at the tip of its tail, and has a wingspan of 23 cm. The fiery reptile is sculpted in a lunging pose with its right front leg outstretched, its head turned to the right, its tail raised high, and its wings cupped downwards like two halves of an umbrella.

Not surprisingly, the dragon’s main colours are red, orange, and black with yellow-tipped claws and horns. Its eyes are bright yellow and its teeth are black, which adds to its hellish appearance. A small jet of orange and yellow flame is visible in its mouth—or perhaps it just has a flaming tongue.

The lava dragon is quite a hefty brute. It has a large, rather typically shaped head, a very thick neck, a massive torso, powerful legs, great wings, and a relatively short tail. Multiple horns jut out from the back of its skull. Its claws are big and curved. Sharp spikes can be found on its wings, running down its spine, and covering the flattened tip of its tail.

And like most dragons, this one is covered in heavy scales. The red and orange colouration combined with black wash really give it a magma or charcoal-ish feel. There’s no doubt that this dragon is a villain through and through.

The lava dragon’s hinged lower jaw opens to a 30 degree angle. The wings are ball-jointed at the shoulders, and stay attached fairly well. And if they do come off during play, they pop back on easily too.

Between its impressive size, fierce appearance, and good play value, it’s no wonder that this lava dragon continues to be a popular seller. You’d be hard-pressed not to find it in a store that stocks Schleich.
