Beware the brutal bite of the swamp monster, for it is stronger and more devastating than that of any other denizen of Eldrador’s Jungle Kingdom, even the mighty jungle dragon itself!

The Schleich swamp monster is sculpted in a dynamic pose with its head turned to the left, its four legs tensed, and its heavy tail raised high with the tip dangling downward to the left. Definitely looks as though it’s ready and willing to engage in a savage skirmish with one of its enemies from the Stone Kingdom. It measures slightly under 14 cm long and is nearly 10 cm tall at the tail.

As you can see, the swamp monster is based on an alligator or a crocodile, but with a number of significant differences. The head is deeper and more robust than any living crocodilian’s, with pronounced triangular ridges over the nostrils and orbits. There are only 22 teeth in the mouth, but they are huge and conical. The legs are large and muscular, especially the front pair. The tail is relatively short and very thick. And perhaps noticeably of all, the swamp monster’s back is covered with aquatic plants. And growing out of the plants is an array of conical spikes, some much larger than others. Finally, there are additional spikes are growing on the tip of the tail, forming an effective club. This beast is well equipped for both offense and defense!

The swamp monster’s main colour is light green with dark brown wash. Yellow is used for the eyes and the spikes and grey is used for the teeth and the claws. The tongue is crimson red and the plants are dark green with more dark brown wash. All appropriate colours for a Jungle Kingdom beast.

As you’d expect, the swamp monster’s body is covered all over in thick scales, including on the soles of its feet. Rows of heavy armoured scutes protect the top of its head, its legs, and its tail. The inside of the mouth is ribbed and the plants on the back are sculpted to look limp and heavy, as though their host has just emerged from the muddy water. One can easily imagine the swamp monster lying in wait with its body submerged until an unsuspecting victim wanders close enough for it to burst out of hiding and attack. The lower jaw is hinged, opening to over 30 degrees. The teeth are not super sharp, but the toy can still deliver quite a painful bite to one’s finger when pressure is applied.

With its fearsome appearance and clamping jaws, the Schleich swamp monster is one of the coolest and most fun toys in the Jungle Kingdom assortment. Definitely worth adding to your Eldrador collection!
