Shimo, sometimes called the World Ender, the Blizzard Lizard, the Bringer of Ice Ages, and the Monster Whose Breath Makes the Ocean Into Stone, is a ginormous Kaiju, far larger than Godzilla himself, with ice-based powers capable of wreaking havoc on the planet. She is, however, a benevolent beast, and most of the devastation she caused over the millenia was due to her enslavement by the vile Skar King. As soon as she was freed, she immediately sided with Godzilla, Kong, and young Suko, and turned her frigid wrath on her hated oppressor.

This is the Giant Shimo toy, released in 2024 and sold at the same price as the Giant Godzilla reviewed here previously. As such, she really doesn’t scale too well with the king. But she’s still a most commodious toy at around 41 cm in length and 21 cm in height. A properly scaled version would have cost at least twice or thrice as much.

Shimo’s skin is wintery white with tiny blue eyes, desert yellow teeth, and a dark pink tongue. Jutting out from the back of her skull and all along her back are translucent bluish-purple spikes resembling ice shards. Her tail is airbrushed with nearly the same shade of purple, all the way down to the tip. A perfect colour contrast to Godzilla.

The scales on Shimo come in all shapes and sizes. They range from tiny bumps on her snout to round scutes on her sides to large overlapping scales on her limbs, tail, and belly. The spikes on her back are blunted and made of soft plastic to prevent injury. The four huge blades on her tail are also soft and safe, but they do still look pretty cool. What doesn’t look cool, though, are the screw holes on the left side of her body. Ah well.

Shimo is one of the most poseable Kaiju toys Playmates has made yet. Her lower jaw is hinged, her neck and shoulders have universal joints, her wrists, hips, and ankles rotate, and her tail is on a ball joint. She can even rear up high on her hind legs to deliver devastating blows with her front limbs.

Overall, Shimo here is a fun, durable, and cool-looking toy. My older son was very pleased to receive it last Christmas. It’s been used in many a battle against Godzilla and the other various monsters in our household. Hopefully we’ll see her again in a future Monsterverse movie.
