What did you think of the season 1 finale?

Torvosaurus

It raised a lot of questions, first and foremost about the synthetics programming. In Aliens, Bishop (played by Lance Henrikson) stated that due to a programming error, previous syns had defects and that his model was programmed to not harm any humans either by direct or indirect actions. So now we have syns that have harmed humans directly, and who plan to take it one step further to actually rule.

So I'm guessing that the transfer of a personality/thought processes of a child to a syn did not have this programming, or maybe the limitations were only applied to Weyland-Yutani androids. The other thing is transferring a child's mind to the syn carries limitations to what the child believes is right and wrong, something I think the female doctor was trying to do, at least indirectly. Just a couple of things that came to mind.

Are you referring to the hybrids (the children) here? If so, I'd say the big difference between synths and the hybrids is that the latter are not programmed. At least, that's how I took it: that each hybrid is a human consciousness in a synthetic body.

That's right. But they could still control the memories, such as when the red-headed girl had a traumatic experience with the monsters and they erased those memories because her behavior reflected it, for example claiming she was pregnant. So if they could do that, I would assume they could add to or remove anything that the humans didn't like, just as they could to any other android.

Good point. If they could delete a memory, maybe they can add a 'memory' or 'belief' (='programmed directive').

Torvosaurus

Well, it's a moot point. Alien:Earth happens after Covenant but before Alien and Aliens, so my whole point was out of context. Oh well, still fun to talk about. 😀

Did anyone else get strong Jurassic Park vibes from the storyline set on the island?

Torvosaurus

I got more of a Predator jungle feeling, but Jurassic Park dies fits in as well.
