MIMP Loch Ness Monster toy

It has been exactly one year to the day since the launch of the Monster Toy Blog. My first review to kick things off back then was the AAA Loch Ness Monster, so to mark this annual milestone, I’ve picked out another Nessie to take a look at, this time from Monster In My Pocket.

Jersey Devil (Mythical Realms by Safari Ltd.)

Name(s): Brand: Classification: ,

4.8 (11 votes)

First reported in the late 18th century, the Jersey Devil (Diablus leedsi) is a rare and dangerous predatory mammal that inhabits the vast Pine Barrens of New Jersey, USA. Its secretive and savage nature combined with its frightening appearance has led to many tall tales being told about its origin, including even one about how it began as the demonic spawn of a human mother.

Yeti (Mythical Realms by Safari Ltd.)

First and foremost, thanks to Happy Hen Toys for this review sample.:)

The yeti (Abomanixhomo messneri) is a very large and elusive ape that dwells in the Himalayan mountain range. Adults are usually around 7-8 feet tall and 500 lbs in weight, but there are unconfirmed reports of 15 foot tall specimens that are capable of killing full grown yaks simply by seizing them by the horns and tearing their heads off.

Chupacabra (Spirit Halloween)

Name(s): Brand: Classification:

4.2 (9 votes)

The chupacabra (Spanish for “goat sucker”) is a cryptid whose origins can be traced back to1995, when in Puerto Rico livestock began turning up dead, drained of blood, and possessing puncture wounds. Eyewitnesses described a bipedal creature, with large red eyes, spines running down the back, hairless skin, and standing 3-4’ (0.9 to 1.2 m) tall.

Monsters by Innovative Kids Groovy Tubes

4.5 (11 votes)

The full set of figures found in the Monsters book and box set. Eclectic does not begin to describe it.

(Editor note: This is the final of the three Monster Toy Blog-relevant book/toy sets. Unlike the Magical Creatures and Mythical Beasts sets, I never covered this one on the FaunaFigures blog, but I’ll use the same general format) Here I am with the last Groovy Tubes set from Innovative Kids that focused on monsters, myths and fantasy (there was a Knights one…not sure if that would fit but I don’t have it).

Bigfoot (Archie McPhee)

Name(s): , Brand: Classification:

3.5 (11 votes)

The poster child for cryptozoology (the search for hidden animals) and a cultural icon, the bigfoot aka sasquatch is an allegedly large, bipedal, primate said to roam the forests of North America. Although primarily associated with the Pacific Northwest, bigfoot has been spotted across the continent, and it goes by many names.

Jersey Devil, Gashapon series, by BANDAI

Name(s): Brand: , Classification: ,

3.9 (8 votes)

Gashapon is any toy (or sometimes other items like keychains or coin purses) obtained via capsule machine. Most prominent in Japan, gashapon (the term can refer to the machine itself or the toy that comes in the capsule) can be found anywhere from malls, to train stations, to even the side of the road in a suburban neighborhood.

Jersey Devil, Monster in My Pocket, Series 4 (Super Scary) by Matchbox

3.5 (6 votes)

Series 4 of the Monster in My Pocket line was the company’s first drastic change, with slightly larger figures, and painted elements, instead of the charming solid colored figures. Each figure was one color, with two elements painted, showing a total of three colors. Because of this, sometimes I feel like the detail of the actual figure is sometimes lost.

Mothman, Myths by Funko Pop!

Reviews and photographs by Shane, edited by MonsterToyBlog.

Yes, it’s yet another Mothman review! The Mothman is a cryptid that has captivated enthusiasts of all things eerie for reasons that have been discussed far and wide, including on this very blog. So I won’t do a deep dive into the history of the Mothman here, except to say that it was a large winged creature reportedly sighted by many in and around the Point Pleasant community of West Virginia from November 1966 to December 1967.

Was it a large bird, as many skeptics believe?

Mothman (Fallout 76, Pop! Games by Funko)

Name(s): Brand: , , Classification: ,

3.8 (8 votes)

Today we’re looking at the Fallout 76 mothman, and although I reviewed a mothman already this one is not actually based on the cryptid, but the video game creature from Fallout 76. For those unfamiliar, Fallout is a post-apocalyptic role-playing video game series that takes place in a timeline that deviates from our own in the 1950’s and retains many of the characteristics of that decade.

Mothman (Glow-in-the-Dark) (Mythical Realms by Safari Ltd.)

Name(s): Brand: , Classification: ,

Mothman is the name given to a flying humanoid creature that was claimed to have been repeatedly spotted in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, from November 15th, 1966, to December 15th, 1967. The string of sightings ceased after the 1967 collapse of the Silver Bridge that resulted in the death of 46 people.
