Hey, my name is Sean, known as SBell on this and many other forums. I have a background in physical anthropology and vertebrate palaeontology but I don’t do any of that now. I have been a dedicated animal figure collector for over 25 years, with a focus on freshwater, prehistoric and unusual fishes (sometimes there’s overlap!); prehistoric mammals; other interesting prehistoric animals; and modern carnivores (especially hyenas), but I will also pick up almost anything that appeals to me (I recently realized that includes salamanders...huh). I used to run an online figure store for a while, then transitioned that into a personal blog about my figures there as well. Recently, that blog was adopted into the ATB/DTB umbrella and can now be found at https://animaltoyforum.com/faunafigures/, mostly as a curated site so that it isn't lost (you can find it here now) When I’m not taking endless photos of my figures for posts or managing my ridiculous collection database I spend time taking care of the fish tank (polypterids rule!), being with the family, and trying to get outside before the Canadian winter forces us inside.

Monsters by Innovative Kids Groovy Tubes

The full set of figures found in the Monsters book and box set. Eclectic does not begin to describe it.

(Editor note: This is the final of the three Monster Toy Blog-relevant book/toy sets. Unlike the Magical Creatures and Mythical Beasts sets, I never covered this one on the FaunaFigures blog, but I’ll use the same general format) Here I am with the last Groovy Tubes set from Innovative Kids that focused on monsters, myths and fantasy (there was a Knights one…not sure if that would fit but I don’t have it).

Bahamut, D&D Icons of the Realms by WizKids

Bahamut is one of those legendary individuals from the lore of Dungeons and Dragons, a massive platinum dragon that rules as king of the good dragons. And also happens to share a name with a giant fish from Arabic mythology that holds the world on its back, but that’s all they share (hence, not including ‘folklore’ or ‘mythology’ in the classifications).

Magical Creatures by Innovative Kids Groovy Tubes

The Magical Creatures box set, with the figures spread out. On first appearance, definitely more…pastel…than the Mythical Beasts. I’m sure that’s coincidence. Because this is the one with the horse-like animals…

(Editor note: This is also a repost of one of my FaunaFigures posts, just a few updates and some clean up..

Mythical Beasts by Innovative Kids Groovy Tubes

This post will be a revision of a post from my old FaunaFigures blog–there’s a couple of these sets, and they should feel right at home on the Monster Toy Blog! I’ll update a few parts, but most of it won’t have changed!

Fantasy or mythical animals aren’t something I generally collect much now–but I would take advantage of unique sets when they appear.
